I'm pretty sure I am not the only who grew up thinking that crying was for the weak.
But is it?
As a child, we cry over anything and everything. You name it, we cried over it. As we grow older, we learned to handle our emotions more efficiently so we may not cry over everything, but sometimes we don't allow ourselves to cry when we need to.
When we release our emotions through tears, we are quick to assume it is expressing vulnerability and failure. Actually, that is not the case. Crying is the body’s way to release emotional stress, but also process it. This is the comfort that we need when we are alone with our thoughts.
Have you ever sat down and analyze how you feel after you cry?
When I cry over something I felt deeply for, happy or sad, I have no control over my tears because I am moved by my emotions at that moment. Sometimes, I don't put much thoughts after crying. However, when I revisit my unhealed wounds and my emotions are triggered, that cry is the cry of pain - bottling in so much and finally releasing the pressure. After letting out the tears, it feels like a load has been lifted off my chest and I can breathe.
Sometimes we need to have our ugly crying sessions. Reassure ourselves that there is always a rainbow after every storm and remind ourselves of our self worth.
In conclusion, if you're still wondering if crying is for the weak then the answer is no. Let. It. Out. Crying shouldn't be forced just like your healing shouldn't be forced as well. Embrace these moments. Crying is a strength. You are learning to release and recover from pain.
