Are you proud of the person you see in the mirror every day?
If you are, then I am happy with you.
If not, just know that you are not alone.
We are our own worst critics.
Understand that we are humans and there will be times when we beat ourselves over our mistakes — small or big. We would picture the outcome if we took a different route then dwell in the misery because we did not achieve what we have planned. What is done can't be undone, but it is never too late to make changes to your life for the outcome you desire for.
As you enter this phase of healing, it is important to self-reflect.
Are you seeing the cup half empty or half full?
Are you speaking positivity to yourself?
How do you react to different life events?
Self reflection is beneficial for self love, self worth and self awareness – overall, for you. This process is not a one-time solution that will make everything "golden and glory". Self reflecting allows you to recognize where your thoughts and emotions are leading you so you can make the necessary changes in your life. These changes can be physical, emotional or mental changes. For example, if you are not happy with your current physical image then set time to put in a 30 minute walk or aim for healthier food options. Another good example is reciting daily affirmations or listening to motivational audios to set your mood prior to whatever you're doing.
When I take the time to reflect, I allow myself to reevaluate my mistakes and reformulate my current self. Why bother when what has been done can't be undone? Well, have you ever watched a movie again and notice details you didn't notice the first time you watched it?
So, I set my mental environment by listening to a self-reflection song or audio, which allows me to get deep into my thinking. There may be some things I have not asked myself before or maybe I have but I like to ask myself again in case life has changed and my thinking has changed as well. In between my thoughts, I find my my strengths and hopes to redefine my future. We can all admit that we were once young and foolish, which led to many mistakes, but they also molded us to be the person we are today. I always love to say that I wouldn't be half of the person I am today without my downfalls and hiccups in life.
This is a friendly reminder to invest time and effort in self-discovery, exploring your beliefs, values and motivations. Continue to seek to deepen your understanding of who you are.
