Chapter Nine: To My Younger Self

If you had the opportunity to meet your younger self, what would you tell them?

My younger self was stubborn. sensitive and a huge overthinker (Still am. Lol.) I was truly one confused kid being the black sheep, not your typical sister that had your brother's friends talking about, my style was confused like myself and lastly, I always wanted to feel a part of something.

So, to my younger self, you've always looked to the future for guidance or a sign, I'm here to let you know that I am proud of your growth and I hope you are proud of mine as well.

We have no control of what happens in life, but we have control of what make out of it. The journey has been bittersweet that has led us to this point. I want you to know that everything you do and encounter will contribute to the person you will become.

Let me start by saying: You are more than enough. You don't have to pretend to be someone else or alter who you are to impress anyone. The unique qualities that set you apart are what will make your experience truly remarkable.

Mistakes, uncertainty and self-doubt adds values to creating who you want your future self to be. Along the journey, you may have setbacks and failures; nevertheless, they do not define who you are and will become. Every setback presents an opportunity to grow stronger and more knowledgeable. During these moments, treat yourself with kindness. Show yourself the same consideration you would give a friend going through a difficult moment. Always keep in mind that you don't need to know every solution. Discoveries are what life is all about. Never hesitate to ask for assistance or advice when you need it. You may believe that you are capable of handling this on your own and don't need assistance, but asking for assistance is a sign of strength, not vulnerability.

I know you dwell on separation but it's acceptable for people to come and go. While some people will teach you important things for the time being, others will stay in your life for eternity. Value the relationships you form, but don't cling to unhealthy relationships out of sympathy. Be in the company of positive and encouraging individuals, which you are today. Trust me, I can't wait for you to meet all the people who see so much potential in you and are rooting for you!

Lastly — Live life. Always remember to stay humble and have realistic goals. Do not allow life to live you. There's so much more to what we see in pictures and what we hear. Take an innocent look at what the world has to offer. Every experience is a story to remember and tell.

Don't hesitate to make the initial move. Have confidence and follow your gut — follow your heart too if needed. You are just getting started on an amazing adventure that will offer many amazing experiences and opportunities. Cherish the happy moments, accept the trials, and have faith in yourself. Remain true to your principles, keep an open mind and heart, and never forget...

Keep your chin up and be proud of yourself.
